Endodontics is known as a condition when the nerves of your teeth become damaged or infected. Root canal therapy is known as the removal of the infected, injured or dead pulp that neighbors the teeth.
A root canal should never be neglected, even when signs or conditions are not present. Pain may not be a factor during the initial stages but can arise very quickly and aggressively.
If root canal therapy does not take place in a timely manner you may risk losing more bone around the teeth. This can seriously impact your overall oral health. Failing to move forward with treatment can result in the nerve of the affected to die, bone loss may occur around the root which can ultimately case the tooth to become lose.
Your dentist will perform a root canal treatment in order to restore a badly impaired or infected tooth. Throughout the process, the damaged area of the tooth is cleared, the remainder of the tooth is cleaned, disinfected and then a filling is applied and sealed in order to enhance and strengthen the remaining portion of the tooth. Tooth decay is the primary reason many patients may require root canal therapy. While the decay advances heavily into the tooth, it ultimately extends to the nerve. At this point, the best method to correct and restore the tooth, will be by undergoing root canal (or endodontic) treatment.
